carryongalaxy Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 hi i have the dreaded abs light coming on at 15 mph i have checked all cv rings and the rear ones and also the sensors.i found a broken wire on passenger side sensor so i fitted a new sensor and light still comes on at 15 mph,can anyone suggest where else to look for a fault :P Quote
Justice Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 If you had a broken wire then I would have thought the light would saty on all the time, are you sure it was'nt a brake pad warning light,If the light is comming on when you reach 15mph it dose sound like one of the wheel sensors is at fault and the abs sensor is not reading as it should, the only way to be certain is to vag com it. carryongalaxy Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 is the stop light in question the red brake light as it lights up aswell at 15 mph also cant use vag com as when connected to the fds6000 there was no communication from the car so vag com wont work either until i find the problem there aswell :P Quote
mumof4 Posted April 8, 2006 Report Posted April 8, 2006 If you have a stop light aswell then in my experience it could be your brakes. This happened to us 2 weeks after an mot last year and we took it to a garage who said that we needed new brake pads and discs as we practically had no brakes!! carryongalaxy Posted April 8, 2006 Author Report Posted April 8, 2006 it has new disks and pads allround, there was a problem with the brake switch which was replaced maybe the answer is looking at that side of things again.both abs and red brake light come on at 15 mph Quote
carryongalaxy Posted April 9, 2006 Author Report Posted April 9, 2006 checked all the sensors and rings also brake switch and fluid level all ok and both lights come on at 15 mph  Quote
Justice Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 When I had a fault with one of my sensors both the ABS light and the brake light were lit so thats quite normal. If the sensor is very dirty it could interfere with the signal and when the wheels are turning quickly it loses contact hence the light comes on.You could jack the car up and use axel stands to suport start it up and drive the wheels if it comes on then it is the front at fault , if not then the back, the other way is to take it to your local garage and ask them to put it on the rolling road that should give you the wheel at fault. johnb80 Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 Thats not quite right. The ABS system checks the signals from all of the sensors at the start of the journey at around 15mph. It will then indicate a fault if the signals are not within tolerance. I also think that it would get confused if you jack up the car and run the front wheels, it will be expecting signals from the back wheels. The pickups are inductive coils and thus have no electrical connection so dirt isn't a problem. Broken wires, bad connections and faulty sensors are most likely causes of this problem. Guest neil_wiles Posted April 9, 2006 Report Posted April 9, 2006 I had the same problem when my rear pads were low and the sensor wire had been worn through, no scraping noise but as soon as I hit 15 mph the lamp lit up it was accompanied by inerference on my radio. Replaced the rear pads and all was fine, strange but true. Neil Quote
